The Good: Cheap price, solid performance, good build quality.
The Bad: Limited capabilities, needs to be set up after purchase.
The Verdict: For a basic entry level model, Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Special offers a well balanced performance.
Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Special is a very affordable bass guitar that brings a well rounded performance for an entry level model. It's a basic package, but one that has enough potential to be used on stage, and in most other applications.
This bass features a familiar Jaguar body made of agathis, and finished with a polyurethane coat. The neck is a classic C shape design, that is fairly slim and easy to play. Fretboard is made of rosewood and features 20 medium jumbo frets. Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Special well built for a guitar in this price range.
Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Special sports a split single coil pickup, and a jazz pickup at the bridge. Electronics are passive, although they are capable of producing a wide range of tones. Pickups are controlled by two knobs each, one for the volume, and one for the tone. Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Special can't really compete with what more refined models priced just a little higher have to offer, but it's a good entry level bass guitar for beginner and intermediate bass players.
One thing to keep in mind about this bass guitar is the fact that you will almost certainly need to set it up after purchase. More often than not the Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Special comes in a really poor state when it comes to intonation. Taking it to a shop can seriously change the way this bass sounds.
Split coil precision middle pickup and single coil jazz bridge pickup
Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Special is a great basic entry level bass guitar aimed at beginners and bass players with a tighter budget. For the price you are asked to pay for one of these, you will get a very well balanced performance that can be used for most genres of music.
