PhotoStudio Review

The good: This software is undoubtedly one of the simplest photo-editors in the market today. Its user interface makes it very easy to master with a few clicks as buttons and menus are modeled to look like some of the popular editing tools like Microsoft Paint. It is available on Windows and Mac.

The bad:  Supported file format is very limited and there are no options for sharing the pictures on social media sites.

The verdict:  The software is decent with its major advantage being its simplicity. However, individuals who expect a lot from their editing software may have to look elsewhere.

What makes PhotoStudio great imaging editing software?

The interface on PhotoStudio is very simple, clean and intuitive especially for individuals who are conversant with the use of Paint. Majority of the operations are completed or initiated on dialogue windows and all the common icons are properly displayed.   Text editing takes place in the edit window.

All the common file formats can be edited on PhotoStudio including RAW files but there is difficulty opening some of the advanced formats like JPEG2000, 48bit RGB images, CMYK etc.  The software has no color management for majority of these files.

The standard range of tools for adjustment can be found on the software. This includes, brightness and contrast editing, noise reduction, red-eye editing etc. While some of the filters like emboss and solarization are dated, magic film and toy camera will still look lovely to a lot of photo editors especially those interested in social media. Other filters include Oil Painting, Watercolor, Charcoal, Wet brush, Pastel, Impressionistic, Neon Edges, Bulge, Pinch, Stretch, Magic Mirror, Mosaic, Splash, Texture, Cool, Moonlight, Exposure, Wind, Frost, etc.

One good surprise with a simplistic photo editor such as this is the support for layers. Feathering is supported and it is equally possible to drop shadows.  The drop shadow effect cannot be edited once applied though.

To extract background objects, Magic Cut works perfectly. All that is required of the user is to select particular areas of the object using brushes and the program will automatically figure out the right edge. Photo stitching and HDR support are also readily available.

The beautify feature of the software makes it easy for the face, eyes, mouth and other body parts to be enhanced.

Film effects can be easily applied, providing the negative, positive, black and white of some of the biggest film companies like Fuji, Kodak, etc. Readjusting the film-grain on the picture will make it appear studio made.

PhotoStudio is known for its software-based De-Noise technology.  This technology makes it easy to remove photo noises to achieve high quality and high performance. Using this software, you can import RAW file from popular camera brands like Epson, Mamiya, Sigma, Olympus, Kodak, Sony, Adobe (DNG), Panasonic, Nikon and Canon.

Using PhotoStudio, you can work on large pictures (up to 30,000 X 30,0000 pixels).
