The Good: Low megapixel count gives it an ability to shoot photos in low light conditions with better results compared to the competition. High resolution electronic viewfinder, great Leica lens, compact size.
The Bad: Lack of built in GPS, lack of ability to transfer RAW files VIA wi-fi.
The Verdict: It's a great camera despite its low megapixel count, as a matter of fact it's one of its main qualities. It's easy to use, and sports all the right features.

Panasonic made a bold move with their Lumix DMC-ZS50 compact digital camera. When everyone is trying to cram more and more pixels into their products, Panasonic decide to take the completely opposite route. The gamble has payed off and Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50 became a very successful model. It's a compact packaged that is capable of delivering a more than decent performance.
The sensor Panasonic chose for Lumix DMC-ZS50 is a 12MP unit which is considerably worse than the competition if you use the megapixel count as the only metric. In reality, such a low megapixel count allows Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50 to shoot great photos in low or variable light conditions. It comes with a 30x zoom Leica lens whose aperture ranges from f3.3 to f6.4. Unlike most of the competition, Lumix ZS50 sports an electronic viewfinder (EVF). The screen is rather small, but offers high definitions thanks to its 1,166k dots packed in a tiny frame. There is also a mechanical wheel to control the diopter if you want to get that perfect sharpness.
Oddly enough Panasonic chose not to include a GPS finder in this camera, even though they already made cameras with this feature before, and tehy still do. ZS50 is capable of recording video from 1080p60, down to 720p60. Battery charging is done inside the camera, meaning that you will have to place your spare batteries into the camera if you want to charge them.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50's build quality is excellent, and doesn't look nor feel fragile at all. it's a very small and compact camera but now it comes with a larger grip. It's light and you can carry it around you for extended periods of time and you won't feel it almost at all.

Panasonic DMC-ZS50 is a great camera that isn't too complicated to use, which also offers a lot of versatility should you require it. The fact that it has such a low megapixel count allows it to shoot great photos in variable light conditions which is great for casual users.
