Canon 100D/SL1 Review

The Good: The camera is very small and light. Image quality is surprisingly good for a camera of its size and price. It features an excellent LCD with a responsive touchscreen on the back, a feature that many higher-priced cameras are missing.

The Bad: The camera might be too small for people with large hands. The built-in flash produces the red-eye effect. Dynamic range is far from impressive.

The Verdict: Canon 100D/SL1 is a perfect camera for anyone who's looking to get their feet wet in photography. It may not have as many features as most other cameras in its class but it can hold its own. We just can't get over the fact how small this camera is. This makes it a great camera to take on family vacations, and similar activities.

Features

Canon 100D/SL1 isn't packed with features, but it does offer a lot for the money. The 18MP sensor is good enough for most uses, but the camera isn't the best when it comes to low light shooting. Considering its price point, it's great that Canon decided to include a touchscreen, which is extremely useful, especially for novice shooters. The camera also records full HD video, and there's a built-in stereo microphone, which is far from impressive, but this is totally fine considering the price of 100D/SL1.

Build Quality

In terms of build quality, the camera feels solid enough, but don't expect it to be in the same league as higher priced Canons. Keep in mind that if you have large hands and/or long fingers, it may be difficult to use this camera at times. Most women, however, will find the size of 100D/SL1 perfect.

Technical Specifications:

  • 18 MP APS-C CMOS Sensor
  • DIGIC 5 image processor
  • 3.0" touchscreen
  • Full HD 1080p video recording at 30 fps
  • 9-Point AF
  • Extended ISO 25600
  • 4 fps shooting

Conclusion

All in all, Canon 100D/SL1 is a pretty decent camera, that doesn't leave much to be desired for in its price range. The camera's small size is its biggest upside and its largest weakness. People will either love it or hate it. If you are comfortable using small cameras, then you definitely won't be disappointed with Canon 100D/SL1.
