Overview

Yamaha is known for making well rounded bass guitars that might not be exotic in their design or performance, but you can't beat them when it comes to versatility. TRBX304 MGR is one such model which looks fairly average, but delivers an amazing sound.

Design

The body of TRBX304 MGR is a solid mahogany piece, which is optimized for comfort. It's a standard shape, and there isn't really much that stands out when it comes to its appearance. The neck is a five piece maple and mahogany design that is connected to the body with the standard four bolt system. It's a bit wider, but thin and fast to play. The fretboard is standard rosewood and comes without any kind of binding.

Features

TRBX304 MGR sports active electronics which offer good performance. The two humbuckers are controlled using three sound control knobs, and a volume knob. There is also an EQ switch that allows you to select a sound preset for different playing styles. Interestingly enough the humbuckers come with a groove on top, which is designed for your thumb if that's the way you prefer to play.

Sound is good, and very versatile. It comes off a bit dry, but it can be optimized for most genres of music. For the most part, it above average compared to the competition, and is one of the best sounding bass guitars you can get for the price.

Specifications:

  • Mahogany body
  • Five layer maple/mahogany neck
  • Rosewood fretboard
  • Active electronics with EQ and EQ switch

Conclusion

Yamaha TRBX304 is well balanced, well configured bass guitar that offers great performance and good sound at an affordable price. It comes with some pretty unique features such as humbucker grooves and the EQ switch, which are not seen too often. At this price, it's a value for the money bass guitar that won't disappoint.
