LG Leon Review

The Good: Very competitive pricing, decent battery life, pleasant to hold and compact.

The Bad: Sluggish performance, mediocre rear-facing camera with some missing features. The front-facing camera is even worse, so forget about taking selfies with this phone. Low-resolution display.

The Verdict: The LG Leon is a passable budget smartphone that can be a good choice if you don't need a decent camera, but if you can spare some more money, we suggest going with the Moto G or Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3.

Design and Build Quality

With a 4.5-inch display, the LG Leon is an ultra-pocketable device that can be easily maneuvered with one hand, even if you have small hands. It is compact, and lightweight. The part on the back which houses control buttons slightly protrudes, which may be unattractive to some people.

Software and User Experience

The LG Leon comes with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, and features a few of LG's own apps including their signature note-taking app - QuickMemo+.

Camera

The 5MP rear-facing camera is probably the worst feature of this phone. In most cases, colors are pretty faded and skin tones are generally muted. Most people will be disappointed with the fact that the camera also lacks touch focus. The front-facing camera is even worse, as it takes selfies that are pixelated and blurry.

Technical Specifications:

  • Display: 4.5 inches (854x480 pixels)
  • Processor: 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410
  • Memory: 1GB
  • Storage: 8GB (expendable via microSD)
  • Camera: 5MP
  • Battery: 1,900mAh
  • OS:    Android OS, 5.0.2 (Lollipop)
  • Dimensions:    129.9 x 64.9 x 10.9 mm (5.11 x 2.56 x 0.43 in)

Conclusion

The LG Leon is a mixed bag. It's a decently built phone with good battery life (mainly due to its low resolution display), but it has quite a few problems. According to benchmarks, the LG Leon should perform pretty well, but real-life tests prove otherwise, as the phone sometimes struggles with basic tasks. If you don't care about having a good camera on your smartphone, then this cheap smartphone can still be a decent choice for you.
