Acer G226HQL Review

The Good: Great colors and contrast ratio, 5ms response time.

The Bad: No HDMI support, not VESA compatible, tight tilt angle.

The Verdict: If you can get past the lack of HDMI port, this Acer is probably going to be the cheapest decent 1080p monitor you can find at the moment.

Overview

Acer G226HQL has been one of the most popular budget monitors for a while now. It brings great viewing experience and vivid colors at a very affordable price. It has its limitations, but for a cheap monitor it offers a good performance.

Design and Performance

The case is an average design with decent bezels that don't impact the viewing experience too much. Front bezels and the stand is made of glossy plastic, while the back panel is matte. The stand is decent and offers good stability, although you can't tilt it very much and there is no height adjustment. Acer G226HQL is not VESA Compatible. One of the main drawbacks of this monitor is the lack of HDMI port. You get only one DVI-D and one VGA port. With that said, you can use an HDMI adapter.

Acer G226HQL comes with a 1920 x 1080 Full HD panel that offers a 100,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and great colors. The brightness is very high, and you will probably find it too powerful at max setting. It has a 5ms response time, which makes gaming a great experience on this monitor. Overall the performance is more than great for the price.

Specifications:

  • Panel:  LED
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080 Full HD
  • Aspect Ratio: 16:9
  • Contrast Ratio: 100,000,000:1
  • Response Time: 5ms

Conclusion

Acer G226HQL is a great budget monitor that is currently very well priced. The performance is great for the money, however lack of key features make this Acer somewhat obsolete. There is no HDMI port which is definitely a must have these days.
